A bamboo house has no off-the-shelf price — size, site, slope and what you want inside all differ. What we can do is come and look, free, anywhere in Chiang Mai or Lamphun, and tell you honestly what your budget will buy. If it cannot be done for that, we will say so.
The frame is Sang Mon bamboo, treated against beetles, termites and mould before anything is cut. Posts sit on concrete footings or on stilts depending on the ground. Roofing can be thatch, dried leaf panels or metal sheet. Walls can be full culms, split-bamboo panels or woven bamboo.
For a large build we can commission proper drawings if you want them. Usually we suggest a small scale model instead — you can pick it up, turn it round, and point at what you want lower or wider. Changes happen right there.

- What does a bamboo house cost?
- There is no single honest number — it depends on size, site and what goes inside. The fastest route is to tell us your budget and the size you have in mind, and we will tell you what that buys. Or let us come and look, free.
- Do I need a building permit?
- It depends on the size, the use and your local municipality. A small hut or sala usually does not; an actual dwelling usually does. Ring your local office before you start — we can give you the dimensions and materials list to take with you.
- How long does a bamboo house last?
- A treated frame under a proper roof typically lasts seven to fifteen years. The parts that take direct sun and rain — a balcony, a stair — wear faster and are replaced piece by piece over time, which we come back and do.
