Models and prices
Raw bamboo is far cheaper than treated, and it suits work that is used and then finished with: scaffolding, propping branches, temporary frames, event sets, or decoration you already know will come down within the year. Tell us the size and quantity and we will come back with a per-culm price.
We will tell you plainly that untreated bamboo has a short life: the starch is still in it, so beetles can get in. If your build needs to last beyond a year or two, or stands outside, we will steer you to treated bamboo instead — it works out cheaper.
We supply full culms, split lengths, thin slats for weaving and flattened panels. Tell us the type, size and quantity and we cut to order. For large loads we can book a cutting day in advance.
Common questions about this
- What is the difference between raw and treated bamboo?
- The starch. Raw bamboo still has it, so beetles will eat it and it can be ruined within a year or two. Treatment drives the starch out and puts an insecticide in. Treated costs several times more per culm, but for anything long-lived it is the cheaper choice.
- Can raw bamboo be used for scaffolding?
- Yes, and it is the most common use our raw bamboo goes to. It needs straight, thick-walled culms with no splits — tell us it is for scaffolding and we will pick accordingly.
