A small workshop in Ban Nong Hai Samakkhi, Chom Thong, Chiang Mai — working bamboo since long before anyone called it craft.
It started with the bamboo behind the house
Por Mitr picked up his first culm of bamboo as a young man — cutting Sang bamboo from the grove behind the house to make a daybed, a chicken coop, a fence for a neighbour. People started asking, and he never stopped. Thirty years later the same hands still hold the knife, still bend the culms, still cut every joint by hand.
Why we still do it by hand
Bamboo is not lumber. No two culms are the same — different curve, different taper, nodes in different places. A machine cannot judge that; only an eye and a hand can decide which culm belongs where. That makes us slower than the next workshop. What you get back is a frame that holds, joints that sit flush, and a build that does not come back for repairs in its first year.
The bamboo we use
We build mainly with Sang Mon bamboo — thick-walled, strong and straight, the right culm for structural work. Before anything is built, it is treated against powder-post beetle, termites and mould. If you would rather have untreated bamboo to save money or for a temporary build, we will do that too — but we will tell you honestly that it will not last as long.
A price you can talk about
We are not a contracting company. There is no office overhead and no marketing budget — the quote is bamboo, labour and real transport cost. If your budget does not stretch, say so. We will look at a smaller size, a different material in places, or splitting the work into phases. Please do not feel awkward about asking.
A model, instead of a drawing
For a large project we can commission proper structural drawings if you want them. Usually, though, we suggest a small scale model instead — you can pick it up, turn it round, and point at the part you want lower or wider. Changes happen right there. It is far easier than reading lines on paper.

Come and see the yard
There are finished salas, arches and furniture standing in the yard. Come and touch them, sit on them, see the bamboo for yourself before you decide. No appointment needed.
